THE TWILIGHT SAGA CHANGED EVERYTHING!

2005, marked the start of an era for all the Twi-Hards, Twilighters, Twi-Moms, or whichever name you want them call, as long as they are fans of THE TWILIGHT SAGA.  Everybody knows that in that year, the first book off the series, TWILIGHT hit bookshelves.  And I think at that time, nobody predicted what it would become today. VIRAL.

Now, everything in the world seems to revolve and related with THE TWILIGHT SAGA.

CONCEPT ON VAMPIRES

In the past, once we hear the word VAMPIRE, we immediately relate it to DRACULA, BLOOD, DEATH, FEAR and all those creepy stuffs. But with the release of TWILIGHT, the way we look at vampires CHANGED. Right?

Now, we associate it with HOT-SEXY-HANDSOME-BEAUTIFUL-SPARKLY BEINGS. We fell in love with the whole concept of it, and even got addicted to them. TWILIGHT definitely changed what people seem to believe in the past.

With the success of THE TWILIGHT SAGA, it paved way for other authors that have written books with concepts and characters of VAMPIRES and IMMORTALS. Really, books with a VAMPIRIC THEME ended up in the BESTSELLER’S LIST.

MUSIC

When TWILIGHT, NEW MOON, ECLIPSE, hit theaters, we were not just enthralled by the movie itself. We were also hooked with the songs used in it. Yeah, I know everybody would agree with me when I say that Twilight fans created a whole playlist in their IPODs and MP3s with all the songs from the soundtrack albums and even songs of the artists involved. Am I right, again?

In the soundtrack, I can see that the artists that were involved are not yet that big in the industry. They’re mostly the Indie-type bands. But with the involvement that they had with the movies, they were immediately recognized by everybody. And disregarding the songs that they’ve written for the soundtrack album, all of the artists and their songs are GREAT. To name a few are, PARAMORE, MUSE, CEE LO GREEN and FLORENCE + THE MACHINE. They are really great MUSICIANS on their own.

It changed the way people look into music. It was not just about, Ooooh I LOVE THEM because they’re mainstream musicians which make them popular. But NOW, we look at it like, Oooohh I LOVE THEM because they’re GREAT MUSICIANS who writes GREAT LYRICS and really let people understand what they are feeling with their songs. We think about the songs, reflect on it.

FASHION

Plaid, Tight Fitted Shirts, Jackets, Hoodies, Long Sleeves, took the world by storm. It’s like everywhere we look; we get to see gals and guys wearing these stuffs, dressed up like Edward and Bella. THE TWILIGHT SAGA MOVIES influenced the fashion industry a lot. Different brands came up with their own lines that are looking like the closet of TWILIGHT MOVIE. To name a few in our place are, PENSHOPPE, BENCH, BNY and WRANGLER JEANS. (For more details on this one, read my other article, TWILIGHT TAKES OVER FASHION)

CHANGED LIVES

Yeah. THE TWILIGHT SAGA changed LIVES. Not just the life of the author, STEPHENIE MEYER but also the actors and actresses involved in it. And most especially OUR LIVES.

ROBERT PATTINSON and KRISTEN STEWART are the HOTTEST CELEBRITIES in HOLLYWOOD and it’s because of the HUGE SUCCESS of the TWILIGHT MOVIE. It’s like everywhere we look; we get to SEE their FACES in POSTERS, MAGAZINES, SHIRTS, and other stuffs.

They’ve got so much talent in themselves, that’s why they were CHOSEN to portray the MAJOR CHARACTERS in this series. They’re portraying their roles like they were really meant to be doing that particular character.

Fans love them to death, and supporting them even the movies that they’re doing outside THE TWILIGHT SAGA. And everybody is STOKED for their FUTURE PROJECTS. Like the one that we are currently waiting for, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS for ROB and ON THE ROAD for KRISTEN. WE LOVE THEM SO MUCH, RIGHT? I KNOW EVERYBODY WOULD AGREE WITH ME…

OUR LIVES...

Now, we’re up to date with everything the surround us. Not just with the updates about them (ROB, KRISTEN and the MOVIES), but also with the news around the world and the likes. We are not just contented to be someone who doesn’t know about anything, we want to look and figure out these things by ourselves. And that happens with the help of the TELEVISION, RADIO and the INTERNET.

It pretty much changed OUR LIVES, in the sense that we developed our fervor for reading. Started from reading this whole SAGA, and now you’re finishing up a whole lot of other books. That’s so COOL.

The next reason…I’m really thankful about this.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA HELPED ME GAIN, MEET AND KNOW LOTS OF PEOPLE. When the whole TWILIGHT CRAZE started, I knew not that many people who LOVE it, I think it was just my friends over here. But now, I’ve meet and known a lot of PEOPLE, not just LOCALLY but INTERNATIONALLY. With that I am so thankful and happy.

Now, I get to have friends that I can talk to about anything in particular. It’s like THE TWILIGHT SAGA, became a bridge for knowing lots of people. And it’s really great because, even though we’re from a different country having a different culture than mine, once we’ve started talking and we’ve got OUR LOVE FOR THE TWILIGHT SAGA in COMMON, the whole conversation becomes EASIER and then we may not realize it that we’ve already built a GREAT RELATIONSHIP with each other.

And I’ll really treasure this people that I’ve met because of TWILIGHT. I really will. And I really, HOPE everybody will do to.

SPEAK FOR ITSELF!

Feeling too proud about something? Or you can’t say what you really feel through your mouth?

Then wear statement shirts and let it speak for itself.

            Statement shirts are so IN, here in the Philippines. And a proof of that, is everywhere we look, we can get to see people wearing shirts that’s got different statements printed in front of it.

            Penshoppe, a Philippine well-known brand, even had a line that has a concept of being a proud “Pinoy”. And it is very uplifting that many people are buying and wearing these shirts. It means that they agree with the whole concept presented to them.

            Cool, right? You get to show your love for our country through wearing these shirts.

            But it’s not the only statement shirts that they offer. They also have statement shirts for girls that are super kikay and all, rockstar shirts and some shirts inspired by movies.

            Just like the one that I bought last year which says “FUR OR FANG?”. And they’ve got another shirt that says, “LOVE BITES”. Those shirts were definitely inspired by Twilight. I just know it.

            Whatever, another brand that produces statement shirts, offers the cheapest shirts that we can possibly buy. But sad to say, it’s only available in Manila. The price range of the shirts is from 89php to 189php. And there are loads of statements and designs to choose from. 

“I FREAKIN’ LOVE EDWARD CULLEN”, “I REALLY DIG FOR VAMPIRES”, “I can quit FACEBOOK whenever I want, but I just don’t want to!” are just examples of statements that are available in Whatever. Some are pretty much “korny”, but it will really make you laugh that you will buy it.

            You can also make your own statement shirts, just like what fans of the book, The Twilight Saga, did back in 2008. Teen girls were like wearing “TEAM EDWARD” and “TEAM JACOB” shirts. And some were even confessing their love for Edward, where they wear “I FREAKIN’ LOVE EDWARD CULLEN”. Fans were really dedicated to the book and to the movie, that they reached these measures in showing their love and support.  

            Statement shirts, is a great way of expressing what we feel about something. If we can’t deal with it through speaking, then with statement shirts, no explanation is needed because it’s already printed and ready to be shown to others. And if you really want the whole world to know about it, these shirts will definitely help you spread the word. Just wear it, and everybody will know.

So you better choose the statement shirts that will really suit you.

“TWILIGHT MANIA” takes over FASHION

Hollywood Industry definitely has a great part in shaping the generation’s fashion trends. Just like what happened back in 2008.

                The year, 2008, marked the start of an era for all the fans of the book, The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer. It was in that year that, Twilight, the first book off the series, is going to be released in movie theaters. Fans all over the world were stoked to finally see the movie adaptation after years and months of waiting.

                And once it hit theaters, Twilight definitely became a certified blockbuster.

                But that’s not it. It was not only about breaking and creating records. It was also about setting the fashion trend of the year.

                From plaid to fitted shirts, long sleeves to v-necks, hoodies to motorcycle jackets and fan’s statement shirts, they’ve got it all covered.

                In the movie, the female lead Bella Swan portrayed by Kristen Stewart, wore a lot of plaid shirts, jackets and hoodies. While her vampire boyfriend, Edward Cullen, portrayed by Robert Pattinson, wore tight fitted shirts, long sleeves and some hoodies.

                Whoa. This movie can really transform these basic clothes into stylish looking ones.

                No wonder that after the first movie was released, everywhere we look, these things were being purchased by lots of people. And remember, not only in the United States, but also here in the Philippines. Brands like Bench, Penshoppe, Wrangler Jeans and BNY, catered to the Filipino Twilighters and buyers, to dress up like their favorite vampires.

                Bench and Penshoppe, had these tight fitted shirts for boys, and it was really the same style that Edward Cullen wore on the movie. Remember the midnight blue shirt he wore when he went to Bella’s room, when they were going to have their first kiss…they have it over their stores. They also created a line of plaid shirts like the ones Bella used in the movie. There are many shirts to choose from, with different colors and different styles.

In 2009, the second installment of the series is released, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and with that fashion experts were eager to see what the movie has to offer in the fashion industry.

And, really, it didn’t disappoint them. Plaid shirts made a comeback; the use of these shirts can be seen all throughout the movie. Motorcycle jackets, were even present.

Wrangler Jeans launched a line in 2009, inspired by The Twilight Saga: New Moon. And it was called “Call of the Wild”. It really showed that it was pretty much inspired by the movie, having different styles of motorcycle jackets and plaid shirts, almost similar to the clothes that can be seen in the movie.  And with the Bella and Edward get-up on the runway, who would question that? They really did a great job in this line.

BNY, also catered to Teen girls, so that they can have access to the Bella “look-a-like” clothing. So many plaid shirts were out in the market that year, that where ever I look, a bunch of girls were wearing them. They also created a line of motorcycle jackets and hoodies. They want to make girls feel like they can be Bella, in their own simple way and by wearing those tops.

The third installment, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, didn’t make a difference. The fashion hype even got bigger and better. Love for plaid shirts, hoodies, and the “Edward Cullen” shirts, were pretty much all around us. Constant production of those items, are done by the different brands that we have. It’s really great to see that your favorite movie inspires fashion and everything else under the sun.

And even, the actors and actresses in this movie franchise wore plaid shirts, hoodies, and tight fitted shirts in their everyday living. It seems like they’ve carried out their fashion sense in the movie to reality. They really became a fan of those items. It’s like, every time we get to see them, out and about in U.S. to London to Vancouver to Baton Rouge, they’re constantly wearing those items, especially the plaid shirts.

And not just them, but a lot of Hollywood artists, became a fan of those too. Even the fans and non-fans…

But, die-hard fans of the series came up with their unique way of showing and saying their love for the series through fashion. They came up with different statement shirts. Some shirts, we’re saying “I LOVE TWILIGHT”, “I FREAKIN’ LOVE EDWARD CULLEN”, “TEAM EDWARD” & “TEAM JACOB”. Some shirts were even printed with graphics, like the whole coven of the Cullens, the wolf pack and even the Volturi. Fans were really dedicated to the book and to the movie, that they reached these measures in showing their love and support.

Thus, I can say that Hollywood does have a great influence to people, especially the things related to fashion. It influenced them to the extent that they translate the clothes and accessories used in the movie into their own style. And which is a good thing, because through the clothes and style that each person has, we get to have a glimpse of their personality. We get to see a part of who they are.

And I’m glad that The Twilight Saga, made that possible.
